Europe’s Largest Truckwash celebrates successful first year on new site

Lymm Truckwash is celebrating a successful first year on its new site, having supported the essential HGV industry throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

Last October, the 54-year-old truck-washing operation relocated just 100 metres from its previous base to its new site at Poplar Park, situated just 30 seconds off Junction 20 of the M6 and Junction 9 of the M56.

Lymm Truckwash will be holding a ‘1st birthday party’ for HGV Hereos on 14th October and will be giving away an extra special gift to all customers on the day – whilst following strict Covid guidelines.

As an essential service to the supply chain, Lymm Truckwash remained open throughout the pandemic and played a vital part in relaying to the government the facilities that drivers needed.

Managing Director, Laura Cardwell, comments: “At the beginning of the pandemic everything was shutting down, including service stations which provide vital food and rest stops for our HGV drivers, our ‘HGV Heroes’.

“I worked alongside Richard Burnett, CEO of the Road Haulage Association (RHA) by speaking to my customers as they came into the wash to find out what they were in desperate need of – at this point, some couldn’t event find anywhere open to take a toilet break. Richard and the RHA were then instrumental in the re-opening of facilities for our HGV Heroes.

“We are not just a truckwash, we offer a warm welcome and since March, we’ve given out nearly 10,000 free teas, coffees and biscuits to our HGV Heroes along with magazines and air fresheners, we have also set up a separate driver toilet to ensure they can always take a welfare break when they visit the truckwash.”

Extra precautions have been implemented on site, including; social distancing measures with staff keeping at least two meters apart and customers pulling up two to four meters away from the driver height kiosk, regular handwashing and cleaning of communal facilities. Full PPE clothing for staff and a contactless payment system were already in place.

Laura comments: “The new site has been really well received by customers and it’s been a pleasure to serve essential workers throughout the pandemic. The logistics industry has kept the country stocked during the pandemic and they needed looking after.

“Our aim is to keep the trucks on our roads as clean as possible. Truck washing is a crucial service and it is a safety and legal requirement for HGV’s to be clean – lights and number plates especially.

“We offer four commercial vehicle wash systems, providing both a pre-wash and gantry wash totalling no more than 8 minutes.

“The new facility also uses automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology, which saves drivers valuable time. They can choose to pay with credit/debit card, cash, Snap or Fuel Card at the HGV-height kiosk, which means there’s no need for them to get out of their cabs, which helps to keep both our team and customers safe.”

Chris Slowey, MD of International transport and logistics firm, Manfreight, commented: “Manfreight would like to thank Lymm Truckwash for their tireless service throughout the past year. We’ve all been facing big challenges but the team at Lymm Truckwash have continued to provide a fantastic, reliable and no-contact service to keep our drivers safe and road-ready.”

Lymm Truckwash will also be supporting National Lorry Week, and the RHA have named them as the customer focus for the week, which Laura and her team are delighted about. They are hosting an open day on 19th November for drivers, transport managers and company owners to see the wash in action and speak with other suppliers and advisors to the HGV industry, plus

get some freebies (all within strict Covid rules). More information to be announced soon but save the date!
