MORE SCANIAS SELECTED BY LSS WASTE MANAGEMENT
Leeds-based waste solutions provider LSS Waste Management has added 14 Scania
XT vehicles to its eet. The additions have boosted the company’s eet to more than 75 vehicles, of which 95% of which are Scanias. The new vehicles
being added are two tippers,
two hook-loaders and ten skip loaders. Managing director of LSS Waste Management Limited, Nigel Woolford, has also ordered a further eight trucks for delivery in 2019, bringing the total order to 22 vehicles this year.
“Having been in business for
over 34 years in a very tough industry and environment I have always tried to buy the very
best equipment I can. Scania are without doubt the best trucks we have run by far,” says Woolford. “With a eet of over 75 trucks, the feedback from the drivers of the new XT models
is that they are outstanding vehicles. I couldn’t wish for more than happy drivers. Our drivers love them in every way. In particular they like the great comfort, great visibility, great power and ease of driving. The vehicles make them feel good each day before they start their work. From a business perspective, fuel economy
is also much better. We are currently running fuel tests on our skip loaders, hook-loaders
and tippers and are all looking much improved compared with their predecessors.”
Workshop and eet manager
at LSS Waste Management, Sally Johnson, adds: “We work our vehicles extremely hard and have always chosen the P-series because they’re robust and reliable. We’ve got 05, 06, 07, 57, 16 and now 18 plates – I think that’s something that speaks for itself.
“We’ve always trusted Scania and the upgrades they make
to the vehicles so decided to
go for the latest option and I’m glad we did,” she adds. “Sat next to the existing P-series, the new generation cabs have a real presence. I’m positive that the engineering and design changes on the XT range will also bene t us in terms of uptime.” ■

The M25’s Thurrock Services has been rated England’s worst motorway services in a user survey by the independent transport user watchdog Transport Focus. Norton Canes (Roadchef) services on the M6 toll was rated England’s best motorway services.
Across the country continued investment by operators is making a real difference to driver experience when they stop at services. In last year’s survey, Heston East was the lowest ranked site with 62% satisfaction. This year it has seen a signi cant increase to 88% satisfaction.
The biggest improvement of any site this year was at Stafford South – which has gone from 70% satisfaction in 2017 when
it was ranked second lowest
to 99%, the second highest performer in 2018.
This year’s lowest ranked services, Thurrock, recorded
a satisfaction rate of 68%. However, the services were undergoing refurbishment at the
time of the survey and it will be hoping to a similar uplift next year.
In this second annual survey Transport Focus asked 9,600 customers about their experience at 111 motorway services in England. Visitors had their say on facilities such as toilets, staf ng, food and drink.
Overall, the survey found 92% of customers were satis ed with their visit including:
• The friendliness of staff was rated good by 94% of visitors.
• 89% of visitors were satis ed with the cleanliness of the toilets. • At 88%, satisfaction rates among people who drive for a living showed the biggest year- on-year increase, but remains lowest across all driver groups.
• 66% of visitors thought the food or drink available to eat in the services was value for money.
24% of visitors said they arrived at the services in a tired, stressed or frustrated frame of mind; this was reduced to just 5% when leaving to go back on the road. ■
